A long time in the making…

Campus’s mainstay lager offering is finally here.

1840 honours the year that legends (and Philadelphian immigration records) tell of Bavarian immigrants smuggling authentic bottom-fermenting yeast to the new world. This travelled yeast would go on to produce beer in the style of it's origin; clean-fermented, pale, and uber-refreshing Lager, leading to a near-ubiquity of pale bottom-fermented beer in the region over the following centuries.

A labour of love designed within the style guidelines for German Pilsner (differing from Czech Pale Lager and Bohemian Pils in being slightly paler, drier, and more effervescent) 1840 aptly demonstrates its patient, meticulous production and carefully-selected ingredients.

Built for refreshment and peerless in drinkability, this Pilsner is a distinctly premium offering without compromising approachability or affordability.

Fresh, doughy bread with subtle toast from a simple grist pedestals delightfully subtle floral-hibiscus, lemon zest and peppercorn spice tettnanger hop character

Authentically spunded, fermented low & slow, and thoroughly cold-conditioned over 7 weeks to produce a crisp, clean beer of superb balance.

Pairs well with fresh fried seafood or garden-garnished carpaccio

Pairs best with a craving that only something crispy can crush!
